Microgynon is a combined oral contraceptive pill that contains levonorgestrel and ethinylestradiol.
Microgynon is an oral contraceptive pill containing synthetic forms of progesterone (levonorgestrel 150 mcg) and oestrogen (ethinylestradiol 30 mcg). It prevents pregnancy through several mechanisms: it stops ovulation, thickens cervical mucus to block sperm access, and thins the uterine lining to hinder implantation of a fertilised egg. To effectively reduce the risk of unplanned pregnancy, Microgynon should be taken daily for 21 days, followed by a 7-day break.
